At TFW Central, we like challenges. We like overcoming them because that’s what makes us better. We understand that working out, eating healthy and prioritizing fitness over a lot of other things can be a challenge. It’s easy to make EXC– USES. But, if we re-think our approach to these challenges and some common EXC– USES why we can’t do something, we can turn a challenge into a REASON to become great.
Challenges are your chance to be great – because inside every OBSTACLE, you will find your BEST if you look hard enough.
Not gonna lie, I hear a lot of excuses why people can’t do this or can’t do that.
The same ones for not working out.
The same ones for not eating healthy.
Maybe you’ve heard or used them, too. I know I have(again, I’m not gonna lie).
But I’ve learned to think about them differently. And what I am going to propose here is that there doesn’t have to be EXC– USES. With just a little tweak in the way you think about them, they can become your REASONS.
WORKOUT EXC– USE #1 — I DON’T HAVE TIME
This is the most common excuse for not working out and even for not eating healthy.
Maybe you’re “too busy”.
Maybe you have a job or two.
Children, a family and lots of stuff to do around the house.
All of this equals stress. And what’s one of the best stress relievers? Exercise!
The REASON you exercise should be because you ARE so busy. To help relieve the stress, maybe give YOURSELF an hour every few days to burn off some steam and take some “me time”.
WORKOUT EXC– USE #2 — I’M TOO TIRED
I hear this one a lot too. Someone works all day and then they are too tired.
What’s one of the best ways to boost energy levels and awareness? Exercise!
Time for a paradigm shift…
Maybe the reason you exercise is because you ARE tired and you don’t want that to ruin your DAY, your WEEK, or your YEAR.
WORKOUT EXC– USE #3 — MY KIDS SCHEDULES ARE TOO CRAZY
First of all, I’m not here to tell you how to raise your kids.
I have a son and l spend a lot of time with other parents, so I’ve learned a thing or two.
Our kids’ schedules are crazy because we allow them to be. They don’t go sign up for 4 soccer teams on their own.
Our kids should be one of the main reasons we WANT to stay strong and healthy!
Your kids see what you do and they will follow. Lead from the front!
Maybe take them out of one soccer league and take them for a hike or just go play with them. I don’t think my son will miss a college scholarship if he doesn’t play soccer year around. But he might get hurt, or burnt out on it.
One of the REASONS I stay healthy and strong is so I CAN not only play with my children, but also my grandchildren, and, if I am lucky enough, my great grand-children as well.
And then there are these…
NUTRITION EXC– USE #1 – MY FAMILY WON’T EAT IT
Let’s think about this one for a moment…
So you are trying to eat healthy, right?
You know what is healthy. You don’t want to eat it but know you need to.
Your family doesn’t want to eat it, either. You know they want the unhealthy stuff.
You love your family. But, you buy them the unhealthy stuff.
Read that again and think about it.
We use this as an EXC– USE all the time.
We should be using it as the REASON.
You should be buying healthy food because you care about the health of your loved ones.
So what if they don’t want to eat it? You didn’t either.
NUTRITION EXC– USE #2 — I DON’T HAVE TIME TO COOK EVERYDAY
I object! You do have time. You’ll never have “free time” to do it — you just have to “make time”.
We all make this EXC– USE time and again.
We order a pizza then watch 3 episodes of MacGyver (the original, not the awful reboot).
So why not make your lack of time your REASON to actually meal prep. Cook up some extra food on Sunday so you’re ready for that quick night during the week to make sure you stay on track.
And if you must eat out, we think this is your #1 OPTION
NUTRITION EXC– USE #3 — IT’S TOO EXPENSIVE TO EAT HEALTHY
This EXC– USE just really isn’t the case.
Fruits and vegetables are not expensive.
Good meats are not that more than regular ones.
And let’s be honest here. A quick fix for most of us to eat healthier is to simply eat less, and buy less, too.
The second big point here is that the alternative to eating healthy is way more expensive.
Long term, it isn’t cheap being unhealthy.
Maybe that extra 10 or 20 bucks a week now keeps you from being hospitalized when you’re 55 . Typical deductibles these days are out of control, so my guess is that a few extra bucks here and there doesn’t sound too bad. Not to mention the yearly visits. The blood work. The medication.
So the REASON you eat healthy should be because it is too expensive to be unhealthy.
Consider these 6 scenarios I just laid out. Can you identify?
Could you lose a few EXC– USES? Or, do you have a few very important or lifesaving REASONS to start re-thinking your approach to your health, strength, fitness and overall happiness?
You can if you want to. And TFWC is here to help you take ACTION TODAY.
No More Excuses. Only Reasons.
When you lose your excuses, you will find your results.
